ART THERAPY
When people hear "art therapy," two thoughts tend to come up right away: that's for kids, or I'm not really an artist. Neither of those things has to be true for art to be a meaningful part of your healing.
YOU ALREADY THINK IN IMAGES
Long before we had words, we had images. Cave paintings, symbols, gesture, the body's own language. These are some of the oldest ways humans have made sense of experience and moved through it. That instinct hasn't left us! We still dream in images, we still reach for a picture, a metaphor, a color, when words fall short of what we're carrying. Art therapy works with that. It gives the parts of your experience that live before or beneath language — feelings, sensations, memories — a way to take shape and be witnessed, without needing to be translated into the "right" words first.
IT DOESN'T HAVE TO LOOK LIKE ANYTHING
There's no standard to meet here. How something is expressed matters far less than that it's expressed at all. A messy line, a color with no name, a shape you can't explain, all of it counts. This isn't about making something good. It's about making something true.
IT WORKS WITH YOUR BODY TOO
Art-making is physical. It involves your hands, your breath, your posture, and the pressure of a pencil. Because of that, it engages you in a different way than talking alone does. It brings both the reflective, verbal parts of you and the sensing, embodied parts of you into the room together. And unlike a feeling that can feel endless or overwhelming, when we put that feeling on a piece of paper, something made can be set down. It can be finished, covered, put away, picked back up later. That containment is part of what makes it useful — you get to move something out of your body and, when you need to, close the book on it for now.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
I work with people navigating anxiety, trauma, chronic pain, neurodivergence, and those who identify as highly sensitive. I also work with people who simply feel disconnected from their feelings, their body, their own sense of aliveness. Those who have been taught to think first and feel later, or not feel at all.
If any of that resonates, this work may be a fit. You don't need any art experience to begin. All materials are provided.
